Catalan coast star of Sea2see campaign

Spanish eyewear brand Sea2see has been deeply committed to taking environmental action to help save the ocean and make each person who wears its products part of the change. This has been its philosophy ever since it was founded in 2016 by François van den Abeele, the aquatic connection and passion too aptly encapsulated in the brand name.   

In line with its commitment to sustainable values, its unique innovation in the optical industry is of stylish eyewear created from recycled marine waste collected as part of an ecological and social endeavour to encourage change.  

All the frames are made in Italy exclusively from 100 per cent marine plastic waste collected by the company. This waste is up-cycled into a reusable raw material in the form of trademarked pellets called UPSEA PLAST. The material is gold-certified Cradle to Cradle and represents a unique development in eyewear, combining a quality finish with durability, lightness and ease of wear. 

The company that began its journey with a range of 18 sunglasses has grown to a collection of over 250 ophthalmic and sun styles for men, women, and juniors. Its success led to Sea2see opening its flagship store in Barcelona last February. 

The focus is on lightweight contemporary designs, with a wide selection on offer, from fashion-oriented styles to timeless classics and sporty frames. The environment-friendly ethos extends to its packaging which is made from sugarcane extract and printed with plant-based inks. 

Wearers of Sea2see know well that these are trendy frames, lightweight with a comfortable fit, detail-oriented, and in timeless yet contemporary colour combinations. The new frames for 2021 too are all of these and present nature-inspired ‘ripple effect’ tones. 

The new Sea2see frame Positano 02 model won the UK Frame of the Year – Optician Awards 2020, an honour that has raised awareness about the excellence and design of the brand which it has achieved while creating contemporary sustainable recycled-plastic eyewear with the same style and design quality as non-recycled products. 

For their first campaign featuring the latest 2021 optical and sunglass models, Sea2see selected the Catalan Mediterranean coast as the backdrop for the shoot. It was here, on the blue waters of the Catalan coast, where the company took its first steps in 2016 to help save the ocean and remove waste from the sea. 

Miles of stunning coastline, beautiful beaches and other natural surroundings with lovely sunshine and more make the region a popular tourist destination. In the new photo campaign, these coastal waters are as much the star as the models Jordi Fumanal and Anastasia Schevchenko, all alluringly captured by photographer Ivan Caster. 

The choice of a natural local setting to present its latest collection is a first among the brand’s campaigns, and a reiteration of its commitment to preserving the natural world that the company is so passionate about.
