Padmashree Vipin Buckshey mourns the loss of
Bollywood’s greatest gem Rishi Kapoor
A Tribute : MY FRIEND RISHI
I am extremely saddened to hear the sad news of my friend Rishi Kapoor who was an amazing human being apart from being a renowned artist of very high standing.
In my relationship with him for over thirty years, I could never ever insert a contact lens in his eye on account of psychological fear he had since childhood. There were multiple occasions where his role in a particular film demanded that he wear contact lenses to change his appearance but he could never do so. In his recent movies “Kapoor & Sons” & “Sanam Re” I had given him spectacles of +8.00 for his old man worn out look. With the high plus glasses he had extreme difficulty in looking straight and I was keen to fit him minus lenses to neutralize the effect. Despite best possible counselling and motivation he could not wear contact lenses.
According to Rishi, he played the role of a young Raj Kapoor who had Blue eyes in the film “Mera Naam Joker” at the age of around 12 years. An Optometrist was called specially from London who would just before the shot insert large rigid blue Scleral Contact Lenses which he found them to be extremely uncomfortable. He says he would sometimes even hide below the bed on seeing the British Optometrist. In the late sixties that was the only device available and he found the whole experience traumatic leading to adverse hatred for contact lenses.
The world will remember him for being the super star he was but for me he will always be a humble and a genuine human being.
May his soul rest in peace in Heaven.
